  Latham and the Rodeo Cowgirls
Are you interested in Rodeo's? Are you interested in cowgirls? How about kindness to animals? If you said Yes three times - this is just the film for you. In a new film by Steve Wursta, "From Cheyenne to Pendleton" you can learn more of the early history here at Latham. Back in 1928 we were faced with teaching kindness and ignoring animal cruelty then prevalent at rodeo's, or taking a leadership role to help solve the problem. Guess which way Edith Latham and the Foundation choose to go? A perfect teaching tool of the early 1900's in the west. The DVD is available directly at Arctic Circle Productions Ordering

A Common Bond - A Great Cooperative Work
Latham is very pleased to note that the Humane Society of the United States, American Bar Association and the American Humane Association are working together to bring a new book forward. A Common Bond: Maltreated Children and Animals in the Home, Guidelines for Practice and Policy by Mary Lou Rancdour, Ph.D. of HSUS with Howard Davidson, J.D. of ABA's Center on Children and the Law, published by AHA.
"The purpose of this publication is to offer a framework to the many groups and agencies associated with child protective services and animal protection from which they can interact, and in that interaction extend important protections to children and their companion animals."
This working together toward helping children and animals is the right approach. A Common Bond: Maltreated Children and Animals in the Home

Free Humane Education Materials for Disaster-Affected Shelters
Latham has initiated a program to help replace educational tools that were damaged or lost during the recent disasters. To assist in recovery efforts and add to the good work of many of the organizations that are assisting victims, Latham will provide free humane education materials to any shelter impacted by the disasters. Organizations whose materials have been lost or damaged are invited to select up to three Latham books and five Latham videos or DVDs with which to begin rebuilding their educational programs. Shelters should contact Latham by phone, fax, or mail to arrange to participate in this program. We ask only that they agree to pay the shipping costs.

Latham in 1935 Hollywood movie staring Cesar Romero
We recently found that The Latham Hero Animal award program, begun in 1931, was featured in the 1935 20th Century film, Show Them No Mercy starring Cesar Romero and Bruce Cabot. The story finds a young family and their dog trapped by criminals being hunted by the FBI. The dog helps save the family and is awarded the Latham Foundation award in a final scene - helping show the impact our program had on the country. The Internet Movie Database - Show Them No Mercy
